YouTube Premium Lite Arrives in India

YouTube Premium Lite Arrives in India

YouTube has introduced a new subscription tier in India called Premium Lite, priced at just ₹89 per month. The plan offers users a more affordable way to enjoy ad-free video viewing without including all the features of the standard YouTube Premium.

What You Get — and What You Don’t

Premium Lite is designed for those who primarily want an ad-free experience:

  • Most videos across devices (mobile, tablet, TV, and web) will play without ads.
  • Ads may still appear on YouTube Shorts, music videos, and in search or browsing results.
  • Features like YouTube Music access, offline downloads, and background play are not part of this plan.

How It Differs from YouTube Premium

  • Price: Premium Lite costs ₹89/month, while the full YouTube Premium plan starts at ₹149/month (or higher depending on the package).
  • Features: The Premium plan includes ad-free viewing, YouTube Music, background play, and offline downloads. Lite is focused solely on ad-free viewing for most videos.
  • Limitations: Certain content such as Shorts and music videos may still show ads under the Lite plan, whereas Premium removes them completely.

Why This Move?

India is one of YouTube’s biggest markets, with a growing demand for budget-friendly subscriptions. Premium Lite is aimed at users who don’t want to pay for the full Premium plan but still wish to cut down on ads.

Globally, YouTube and YouTube Music have surpassed 125 million subscribers (including free trials and paid plans). By introducing Lite in India, YouTube hopes to attract a broader audience with different needs and budgets.

Roll-Out & Availability

The rollout of Premium Lite has already begun and will become available to users across India in the coming weeks.
